The work included here are the reflection of time spent hiking and journeying deep into Minnesota’s north woods. I tried to capture the sublime form of the wilderness in a graceful and simple way.
Discovery of new ways of looking at things is one of the rewarding aspects of creating art. As I looked at isolated facets of nature I am brought back to the reflection of how important the single is to making a whole. In the wild nature has an economy of necessity where everything has importance, and like parts of a body, everything depends upon the parts to create a whole.
Island lake is a small but intimately serene place tucked into the forests of the north. Here is where I was inspired by the pines and clear lakes, drawing on this to work into a series of impressionistic oil pastels. The bold colors are like the splashes of natures array glowing with life.
